Application Engineer (m/f/d) – Plastics Processing

Do you love injection molding and want to use AI in plastics production?

Full-time
Stuttgart, Augsburg

‍What to Expect

plus10 is a Fraunhofer IPA spin-off. Our AI tool, Hopper, optimizes injection molding processes in real time—reducing scrap, shortening cycle times, and speeding up setup. Hopper helps customers mitigate the shortage of skilled workers, process engineering plastics and recycled materials with consistent process stability, and systematically leverage production knowledge. It is an established product in daily use by leading customers in the medical technology, automotive, and consumer goods industries.

Your tasks

  • On-site technical requirements assessment: machine configuration, data availability, OT connectivity
  • Coordination of the integration of machine control systems and OPC UA interfaces
  • Configuring the hopper for the specific process (material, machine, quality objectives)
  • Orientation and training for machine set-up operators, shift supervisors, and process engineers
  • Transition to stable operation and ongoing technical support
  • Independent management of ongoing Hopper implementation projects
  • Pass customer requirements on to the development team in a structured manner and translate shop floor into specific feature requests

As you gain more project experience, you will have the opportunity to gradually assume overall technical responsibility for Hopper.

What you bring

  • A bachelor's degree in plastics engineering, mechanical engineering, process engineering, or a related field — or a technical training program with relevant professional experience
  • Experience in plastics processing, particularly injection molding—setup, optimization, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with at least one common injection molding machine control system (e.g., Arburg Selogica/Gestica, Engel CC300, Demag NC5)
  • Basic Understanding of Industrial OT Environments: OPC UA, Machine Data, and Edge Devices (No programming knowledge required)
  • Experience coordinating technical projects; ability to work in a structured and independent manner
  • Business-level German, English B2 (language used in the workplace)
  • Willingness to travel: approx. 10–20% (Germany + EU)

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with extrusion processes
  • Knowledge of data analysis or the implementation of industry software
  • Using AI Tools Like Claude or ChatGPT Safely in Your Daily Work Life
